About This Blog
What is this site all about? Well it all started in the summer of 2006. It was a hot day in the middle of July and my wife and I were just getting ready to take a trip “up North” for our first anniversary. As we were packing (I mean I was packing), my wife was browsing the Internet just looking at “what was out there” in terms of available homes in our area. She found one she really liked and asked me to look at it on Realtor.com. I took a quick glance and thought it was a really nice home. She asked me if she should call the listing agent for more information and thus we were on our way to go see it. I figured that we would take a quick look at it and then get back on the road for our vacation. Little did I know that we would both love the house and made an emotional decision to put a bid in. In three short hours, we had put in a offer and later that afternoon our home had a for sale sign in front of it.
We had originally planned to list our home in the Spring of 2007, so we thought we were just getting a little jump start on the process. We didn’t have a realtor at the time, so we asked the listing agent what we needed to do to get our house listed. The agent’s reply was “Well, I can list it for you..”. We sat down with the agent and began discussing the process of selling our home. The agent seemed knowledgeable and offered a low commission percentage as he was the managing broker. Thus, we listed it with that particular agent and were on our way….at least we thought.
To make a long story short, our house was on the market for 5 months and we received no offers and eventually acquired a new agent. The word to describe this whole process was “nightmare”. We never knew all the intangibles that go into selling a home and paid the price emotionally (fortunately, not financially). Eventually in December of 2006, we took our home off the market as it just became more of a hassle than anything and the future didn’t seem all that promising. We eventually had to cancel the contingency on the home we intended to purchase.
While the story is negative in nature, there is a positive side. We still intend to put our home on the market in March 2007, however, this time we are much more prepared. We’ve done intense research and even made some changes to our home that hopefully will entice potential buyers. Our intended purpose of this blog is to tell our story and share our experiences of the past, updates of our second try in selling, and hopefully to provide a resource for potential or current home sellers.
If you’re a current, future, or past home seller, this is the site for you. Please feel free to provide comments as they may pay dividends for home sellers no matter what price range or situation.
